Police on standby for gathering of youths planned for Swansea dunes tomorrow

Children as young as 11 or 12 can now be issued with orders banning them from Swansea beach.

It follows reports regarding the young ages of some of the youngsters accused of lighting fires, underage drinking and anti-social behaviour on the beach.

Police have today issued a fresh warning to parents as they say youths plan to gather in Swansea 's dunes tomorrow.

Youths have previously been warned that they could be banned from the sand dunes on the seafront after recent issues in the marina area , including starting grass fires and drinking alcohol.

What is anti-social behaviour:

At the beginning of the month, a large amount of alcohol was confiscated from kids at the dunes and 12 of them were banned from the beach as Section 35 notices were issued, preventing them from returning for up to 48 hours.

One man was also arrested on suspicion of a public order offence.

Now, police have issued a 'do you know where your young people are?' warning to parents after becoming aware of another gathering on Friday night.

A South Wales Police spokesman said: "We are aware that young people may be planning a gathering on the dunes tomorrow evening.

"We would like to remind you that anyone enjoying the beach and not causing issues can continue to do so, but we have the option of issuing S35 dispersal orders for those not only causing concerns for residents but also putting themselves at risk.

"We will also be confiscating alcohol from anyone found drinking underage.

"Due to reports of the ages of those who are causing concerns and putting themselves in danger an additional Superintendent's authority for young people over the age of 10 to be issued notices has also been granted."
