Police on scene as eviction notice served to travellers

A group of travellers who set up camp in Eastville have been given an eviction notice by the relevant authorities.

Officers from Avon and Somerset Police were at Glenfrome Road this morning (Saturday, June 13) to prevent a breach of the peace.

The land itself is owned by Wales and West Utilities and the travellers set up home on the old gas works site on Glenfrome Road.

First Bus's number five service was blocked for a short time this morning as balliffs served an enforcement notice.

The tweet reads: "Service is on due to police closing Glenfrome Rd. The service is diverting via Eastgate RD M32 then Ashley Rd & Lower Ashley Rd then normal route in both directions."

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Constabulary said: "I can confirm we are there to prevent a breach of the peace.

"The primary action is being taken by bailiffs who are carrying out enforcement action on behalf of a private landowner."

Wales and West Utilities owns the land, and a spokesperson said: “We are aware of a number of individuals trespassing on our land in the Glenfrome area of Bristol.

“All individuals currently trespassing have been instructed to leave the area.

“We will work alongside the appropriate authorities until this matter is resolved.”
