Police will be on high alert for Schoolies celebrations in Port Stephens over the next few weeks with anti-social behaviour and COVID-19 compliance front of mind for officers.
There are no formal events for Schoolies this year, but thousands of school leavers are due to arrive in Byron Bay from Friday.
Port Stephens Hunter police say they also have had their eye on areas such as Nelson Bay and Shoal Bay for potential end of year 12 getaways.
"We've been working with accommodation providers working out whether there is going to be an influx of Schoolies," Port Stephens Hunter police commander Superintendent Chad Gillies said. "It's unclear whether that's going to be the case.
"But our message to people coming to the area is to comply with COVID restrictions and enjoy the break responsibly.
"In terms of Airbnbs and private accommodation, the restriction for private residences is still 20 visitors on top of the residents.
Superintendent Gillies said police had been out and about in licensed venues every weekend as part of Operation Summer Safe, and Schoolies would be "front and centre of those considerations" throughout the next few weeks.
