Police Ombudsman launch freephone witness appeal line after car park death

A freephone witness appeal line has been set up Police Ombudsman investigators after a man died in a Co Down car park.

The PSNI said they received a report of 'concern for safety' at 11.20am on the Ards Peninsula yesterday morning.

A man, aged 27, was later found lying outside his apartment on Cloughey's Main Street by officers and died despite resuscitation attempts by police and paramedics.

A spokesperson for the Police Ombudman's Office said: "We would appeal to anyone who was in the Main Street area of Cloughey at about 1.30pm and may have seen what happened to contact our freephone witness appeal line on 0800 032 7880."

The PSNI referred themselves to the independent investigator as they were present at the time of death.

"Our investigators have been at the scene and have begun gathering evidence to piece together the course of events which resulted in this tragic and untimely death," added an Ombudsman's Office spokesperson.

"Our thoughts are with the man's family and friends at this time."
