Police officers stabbed after being called to fight at London home

Four police officers have been injured, including two who were stabbed, after they intervened in a fight at a house in north London.

The Metropolitan Police said the officers were “met with hostility” when they attended the address in Islington on Saturday evening and found a man brandishing a knife.

Two male and two female officers were hurt in the exchange, one receiving a head injury and another a suspected broken wrist - while two others were stabbed.

All required hospital treatment, although none of their injuries are considered to be life-threatening and three of the officers have since been discharged.

However, a male officer remains in hospital, where he is being treated for serious stab wounds.

Police were forced to discharge a Taser during the incident in order to apprehend the suspects.

A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, while a second 19-year-old was detained on suspicion of affray.

“This incident demonstrates the courage and professionalism officers show day in day out in what can often be a dangerous job,” said Met superintendent Mike Hill.

“When officers respond to what can often be a difficult situation or go to assist members of the public they should not be met with violence, it is completely unacceptable.”

The Met said in a statement officers had also recovered a knife at the scene of the incident.
