Police officers save life of man who suffered heart attack - after his dogs led them to him

Two dogs led a police officer to their sick owner who suffered from a heart attack.

PC Debra Ryan spotted the loose dogs on the Carrington Spur Road, in Trafford, and stopped to investigate why they were on their own.

She caught the dogs who then led her in the direction of their owner.

As she approached the man, who was stood in front of his car, he suddenly collapsed and appeared to be in distress.

PC Ryan realised the man was in cardiac arrest and radioed in for an ambulance, before performing mouth-to-mouth CPR on the dog-walker.

A Greater Manchester Police armed response vehicle was nearby and arrived at the scene with a defibrilliator.

The officers performed CPR until the ambulance arrived, and he was taken Wythenshawe Hospital in a police vehicle.

Officers also contacted the victim's next-of-kin and drove his car, with the dogs inside, to his home address.

GMP said he is now in a stable condition.

Inspector Steve Bryant said: “This incident highlights the amazing work GMP officers do on a day-to-day basis. Without their initiative this man may not be alive today and I’m extremely proud of the commitment they all give to help the community of Greater Manchester.

“PC Ryan was on her own until further support arrived and she took all the right and necessary actions to ensure the man got the treatment he needed until extra help arrived.

“The forward-thinking actions of all the officers involved ultimately saved this man’s life.”
