Police officers placed at key junctions throughout the city in bid to keep traffic moving

Police officers have been placed at key junctions across the city to maintain the flow of traffic while the lane closures on the A52 Clifton Bridge remain in place.

Nottinghamshire Police, Nottingham City Council and Highways England are working together to ease congestion, particularly before and after the Nottingham Forest vs Charlton Athletic game on Tuesday, February 11.

Officers are using hand gestures to keep motorists from blocking key junctions, including the traffic lights at Trent Bridge, the junction of the A60, Loughborough Road and Meadow Lane.

A number of other measures are being enforced tonight (Tuesday, February 11), such as the temporary closure of numerous roads in The Meadows, to keep trams and buses moving.

Highways England confirmed it would be opening one lane on Clifton Bridge at around 9.30pm, after the eastbound lanes were completely closed from Thursday, February 66, after corroded steel work and damaged concrete was found underneath the bridge.

This has caused considerable chaos in the six days since the closures were enforced.

Officers from the force have been working at key junctions since Monday, February 10.

Superintendent Paul Winter, from Nottinghamshire Police, previously said: "We will be working with the City Council to try and keep trams and buses moving so if you work in the City Centre and can use the tram this may be a quicker way to get to work.

"Motorists also need to bear in mind the knock-on effect the closure will have on other roads in the area due to the increased traffic.

"The advice is to make plans early to avoid this traffic. If you are in a role where you can start work later or if there is any flexi-time you can consider taking which means you don't have to travel into work during rush hour then we'd ask you to consider this."
