Police officers' kind gesture to two veterans on Remembrance Day

Locals have applauded Merseyside Police after officers stopped to help two veterans this morning.

Police officers drove past the two former servicemen at the bus stop in Wallasey Village as they waited for the bus.

After noticing the men, the officers turned the police car around and picked them up to take them wherever they were travelling to pay their respects, in what's been praised as a heart-warming act of kindness.

A local who witnessed the kind gesture shared her admiration on a Merseyside Facebook group, saying: “Just seen something I thought was lovely.

“Two of our heroes stood at the bus stop outside Sheridans in Wallasey village on their way to [mark] Remembrance Day.

“A police car drives past and sees them standing waiting for the bus, turns around and goes back to offer them a lift.

“Well done Merseyside Police”

In just a few hours the post has been liked more than a thousand times, with many people also commenting to praise the police officers.

Remembrance Day has been marked differently across Merseyside today, with the traditional services cancelled as a result of the ongoing pandemic and lockdown regulations.

Instead, local authorities have taken their services online and encouraged people to honour our war heroes from home, by respecting the moment of silence and quiet reflection, or by placing a poppy in their windows.
