Police officers in south Manchester who respond to emergency 999 calls and urgent incidents are moving

The team of south Manchester-based police officers who respond to emergency 999 calls and urgent incidents are moving stations.

Officers will now be based at Wythenshawe Police Station, on Poundswick Lane, as well as West Didsbury Police Station, on Elizabeth Slinger Road.

Bosses say this will allow for an “enhanced police response”, providing increased visibility and reassurance to the Wythenshawe community.

It’s hoped officers will now be in a better position to respond to emergency incidents.

The changes for the South Manchester Response Officers came into force on Thursday (July 24).

Response officers respond to emergency 999 calls and urgent incidents requiring immediate action.

The current Wythenshawe Neighbourhood Teams will remain based at Wythenshawe Police Station.

Superintendent Richard Timson, Greater Manchester Police’s (GMP) South Manchester District Commander, explained the reasons for the move.

He said: “Local policing is at the heart of the service we provide, and this move means that we can increase our local policing presence – providing reassurance for the public and a deterrent for offenders.

“Our priority will always be to deal with the emergency calls for help that we receive through 999 and the hope is that this move will put our officers in a better position to respond to these incidents.

“The move has been welcomed by our local partners and community. We will continue to engage with them throughout the transition period.”

Many of GMP’s services can be accessed online at www.gmp.police.uk.

Always call 999 in an emergency, or 101 if it's a less urgent matter.
