Police officer who sent racist text resigns before gross misconduct hearing

A police officer would have been dismissed for two counts of gross misconduct had he not resigned, a hearing found.

Police Constable David Linney, who was previously based at Sherwood Lodge police headquarters, did not appear at the hearing to answer two charges of breaching the standards of professional behaviour.

One breach related to accessing police systems for a non-policing purpose and the second related to using racist language in a private text message.

Mr Linney had already resigned prior to the hearing, which took place at Nottinghamshire Police's Sherwood Lodge headquarters on Tuesday, December 3.

Nottinghamshire Police Chief Constable Craig Guildford, who chaired the hearing, said: "The public of Nottinghamshire and I rightly expect the very highest standards from our officers in how they conduct themselves both on and off duty.

"There is absolutely no place whatsoever for this former officer's conduct in Nottinghamshire Police."

Following the hearing, the former officer was added to the barred list to stop them from working within policing in the future.
