A Canberra police officer has pleaded guilty to negligent driving causing death over a crash that killed a woman in Kaleen last year.
Lachlan Chancellor, 37, was responding to a priority incident when the marked police car he was travelling in T-boned another car at the intersection of Maribyrnong Avenue and Baldwin Drive in Canberra's north in May 2018.
The driver of the car, 53-year-old Canberra woman Amanda Beehag, was critically injured.
Chancellor, who was also injured in the crash, administered first aid to Ms Beehag but she never regained consciousness and died in hospital about one month later when her life support was turned off.
After her death, her former employer Special Olympics Australia remembered her as a "strong advocate for the power of sport to improve the lives of people with an intellectual disability".
The court had previously heard there was a dispute over whether Mr Chancellor had activated his lights and sirens before entering the intersection and hitting Ms Beehag's car.
The case was set to go to trial after the suspended officer had pleaded not guilty to culpable driving causing death.
However, in the ACT Supreme Court today Chancellor pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of negligent driving causing death.
Chancellor remains on bail under conditions, and the case will return to court for sentencing at a later date.
