A police sergeant who allegedly dangled a pepperoni pizza over the food of a Jewish officer is facing a disciplinary hearing.

Giving only the officer's surname and rank, Sussex Police said PS Jacobs will appear before a panel over an allegation that his conduct breached police equality and diversity standards.

According to a notice posted on the force's website, the allegation dates back to March this year.

It says: "On 8 March 2019, knowing that another officer is Jewish, PS Jacobs deliberately dangled a pizza containing pepperoni over that officer's food.

"A piece of pepperoni subsequently fell onto that officer's food meaning they could not eat it."

Sgt Jacobs, who is based in Crawley, will face a hearing at Sussex Police HQ in Lewes, East Sussex, on November 19.
