Police officer taken to hospital after van is deliberately driven into their patrol car in Gorseinon

A police officer received hospital treatment after a suspect van was deliberately driven into their patrol car.

South Wales Police said that at about 3.20am on Thursday, October 17, in Gorseinon , Swansea , a roads policing officer spotted a white van with a false number plate while on patrol.

The van driver then deliberately reversed into the police car, injuring the officer. The injuries are said not to be life-threatening.

A police helicopter, dog unit and armed officers were deployed to try and locate the driver, but no arrests have been made.

A spokeswoman for South Wales Police said: "While on patrol at about 3.20am this morning in Gorseinon a roads policing officer spotted a white transit van on a false number plate.

"The vehicle deliberately reversed into the police car injuring the officer. The officer required hospital treatment for non-life threatening injuries and is now recovering at home."

She added: "A number of resources including the helicopter, dog unit and armed officers were used to locate the van which was found at an address in Gorseinon.

"The address was searched and a number of stolen items were recovered.

"Investigations are ongoing and anyone with information should contact 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 quoting occurrence 1900383667."
