Tasmania Police has launched an investigation over an allegation an officer has been involved in a sexual assault.
In a statement on Friday, police said the incident was "alleged to have occurred off-duty", but did not specify when or where the alleged assault occurred.
"The officer has been stood down pending the outcome of the investigation," Deputy Commissioner Scott Tilyard said, adding "it is not appropriate to make further comment".
No other details have been released.
