Police officer still in hospital after car hit by lorry on A92 in Fife

A police officer who was injured in Thursday's crash on the A92 remains in hospital for observations.

Police Scotland have revealed further details of the incident on Fife as they appeal for witnesses to come forward.

Two male officers were in a BMW X5 when they came across a white Vauxhall Corsa which had broken down in a westbound lane.

Police stopped to help around 1.45pm, with one of the officers directing traffic. Three women in the Corsa were directed to the verge nearby.

A male officer in his forties was inside the X5 when it was hit from the rear by a car transporter lorry.

It was badly damaged and thrown into the embankment at the side of the road.

An air ambulance was called out to help the injured officer and he was airlifted to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

His injuries were serious but not life-threatening. One of the women who were in the Corsa suffered minor injuries.

Inspector Andy Mather, of Fife's Road Policing Unit, said: "Thankfully, neither the officer nor anyone else involved sustained life-threatening injuries. However, he remains in hospital for observations.

"I want to take this opportunity to thank the public, and colleagues, for their supportive messages and would encourage anyone who may have witnessed this, or was travelling on the A92 at this time and has dashcam footage, to get in touch."

Anyone with information can contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 1746 of 27 February.
