Police officer spat at by man who shouted 'have some of that corona'

A Merseyside Police Officer described the "disgusting" moment he was spat at by a man who told him "have some of the corona".

ITV's Tonight: Policing Britain saw Rachel Younger from ITV talk to PC Markluke Hanson who had only been on the force for a few months.

PC Hanson said: "When we tried to put him in the cell he was being non-compliant, when he did get placed in the cell he came to the door and spat at myself and my colleague.

"It was disgusting to be fair to you, but it's one of them, it's part of the job.

"He said 'have some of that corona.'"

The man was found to not have coronavirus, but was given an eight-month sentence because of his actions.

The show also saw Rachel out on patrol with PC's Gemma Doyle and Molly Rider who told her that they'd had to disperse 20 youths from Newsham Park in the past week.

They also said they had been called to a party in the Albert Dock with 46 people present smoking, drinking and dancing to loud music.

The pair said those kind of calls made them angry, because "we're needed for emergencies elsewhere".

Domestic disturbances have also increased drastically, with the officers saying: "We've had loads more domestics than we normally have, people are obviously getting claustrophobic and tensions are running high."

The programme also went to Lime Street Station, where officers said they had stopped gang members from boarding trains, after they had dressed up like key workers to try and blend in.
