A West Yorkshire police officer has described how he saved the life of a young girl who was stood on the edge of a bridge last night.
The traffic officer came across the girl in the early hours of Saturday, March 28, and found the youngster in a precarious position on the wrong side of the barrier, wanting to take her own life.
However, PC Martin Willis stood underneath the bridge and talked to the girl for half an hour, convincing her to climb back to safety.
His brave actions eventually worked and he managed to save the young girl's life.
Shortly afterwards, PC Willis took to Twitter and said: "Just spent half an hour stood under a bridge persuading a young girl not to jump off and kill herself.
"Fortunately, she eventually climbed back over the barrier.
"I really thought she was going to do it and it scared the hell out of me. Cannot explain my relief that she is now safe."
PC Willis' tweet has been shared wide, with many people praising him for stepping in to help the young girl in question.
It is not the first time the traffic officer has leaped into action to save someone's life. In 2017, he gripped onto a van with his bare hands and stopped it plunging off a bridge on the A1(M) near Bramham.
“I told the victim not to panic and said, ‘we’re going to get you out of there, whatever you do, don’t move'," PC Willis said at the time.
"I then grabbed hold of the rear wheel and pulled inwards, which helped to keep the van balanced. I was there for a good 15 minutes."
He managed to save the driver inside, who later thanked PC Willis for his remarkable life saving skills.
