Police officer sacked for lying will appeal her dismissal

A former Avon and Somerset police officer sacked after allegedly lying to her colleagues is trying to get the decision overturned.

Amanda Nixon was dismissed without notice following a professional misconduct hearing in January.

It found she failed to act after she was asked to make transport arrangements for a witness to attend a video identification procedure on July 16 last year in connection with an assault case.

The notice for her misconduct hearing said she “failed to diligently conduct her duties by forgetting to make the necessary arrangements and/or she acted without honesty and integrity by deciding not to make the arrangements”.

This meant the witness was left waiting at home on the day.

Ms Nixon later emailed the identification unit claiming she hadn’t read the email request asking her to make the arrangements until it was too late.

She also told her supervisor she had not read the email because she’d been too busy dealing with prisoners over the weekend.

The misconduct panel found that both of these accounts were untrue.

An appeal tribunal will be held at the Avon and Somerset Police HQ in Portishead on August 2.
