Police officer sacked after flipping patrol car onto roof before lying about crash

A police officer has been sacked after a panel ruled she had lied about swerving to avoid an animal in the road when she flipped a patrol car onto its roof in a road accident.

Charlotte Morris, 23, was driving a Thames Valley Police police car in Eton Wick, Berkshire in August 2023 with another officer when she hit a parked BMW, before the patrol vehicle skidded across the road and rolled onto its roof.

Morris initially reported she had flipped the vehicle trying to avoid an animal 'like a fox or badger'. A police misconduct panel ruled the lie was an example of 'operational dishonesty'.

Magistrates issued a £266 fine, £90 costs, a £160 victim surcharge and five penalty points on her licence after Morris plead guilty to a charge of careless driving on 6 February 2024.
