A police officer's career is 'in tatters' after a dangerous driver rammed into his car following a high speed pursuit.
Ismael Fareed, 19, has been jailed for his 'appalling' driving in Oldham, which left PC Ian Bruce hurt.
Fareed, from Oldham, rammed the stolen Mercedes into PC Bruce's car.
The officer, who has nearly 25 years' experience, suffered a knee injury and now can't kick a football or run with his daughter, Minshull Street Crown Court heard.
His injury has put an end to his career as an operational officer, prosecutors said.
Another officer was also hurt in the crash, in which Fareed reached speeds of up to 80mph.
Fareed, 17 at the time, was jailed for two years and four months after admitting dangerous driving, two counts of causing actual bodily harm and criminal damage.
The judge told him: "Your driving was appalling, anybody could have ended up on a mortuary slab.
"You were focused solely on yourself, it was all about you."
Speaking of PC Bruce, Judge John Edwards added: "For him, the career he loved for nearly a quarter of a century is in tatters, and his family life irreparably compromised.
"He can’t even kick a football or run with his daughter, or enjoy his hobbies, and his desire to serve the community of Greater Manchester in the way he excelled and relished is finished.
"Every day, officers risk life and limb in the pursuit of mindless driving like this, drivers intent on evading the police and caring nothing for who and what gets in their way.
"What you did in ramming the police car was unforgivable."
The officers spotted Fareed in a Mercedes in February 2019, which had been stolen in a burglary six days earlier.
Fareed failed to stop, and officers pursued him for several minutes through Failsworth and Hollinwood.
He reached 70mph in a residential area, and drove at 80mph over a mini-roundabout.
At one point he mounted the curb to undertake a lorry.
Fareed eventually stopped on Block Lane in Chadderton, where he twice rammed into the police car.
He tried to run away but was caught.
PC Bruce suffered 'extensive' pain to his back, head, wrist and arm, and suffered a knee injury.
The consequences for him have been 'far reaching', prosecutor James Preece said.
The other officer suffered pain to his back and shoulder.
Defending, Kay Driver said Fareed wishes to apologise to the officers.
He was 'off the rails' at the time and had been living in a home 'without boundaries', she said.
Ms Driver said Fareed now has a 'different attitude' and wants to find work when he is released.
Fareed, of Cheviot Avenue, Oldham, was also banned from driving for three years and two months.
