A police officer is in hospital with head and leg injuries after being struck by a car in a hit-and-run
The West Midlands Police officer was attempting to stop the car on a Coventry street when he was knocked down at around 2.45am this afternoon.
The car then drove away from the scene.
The vehicle was recovered a short while later not far from the collision.
Efforts are on-going to find the driver.
Chief Supt Mike O'Hara, from Coventry Police, said: "It is completely unacceptable for a police officer to be injured in the line of duty.

"He has been taken to hospital for treatment and we await further updates on his injuries. We will be offering the officer and his family our full support.
"Enquiries are well under way to trace the driver and I would urge them to do the right thing and come forward."
The incident triggered a large police presence to gather in the north Coventry suburb.
Eyewitness Anne Marie Goodwin told Coventry Live: "The first thing we saw was a couple of police cars screeching down the road and the police helicopter about 3.10pm.
“Next thing you see every car towards the Ricoh turning around - the road looked blocked.
“We looked out the shop and could see the police car by Yelverton Road. You heard the sirens and it’s been one after the other coming down.”
