Police officer rapped for 'stealing a shot girl's phone' on boozy staff night out

A police staff night out ended with an officer being hauled before his bosses amid claims he stole a shot girl's mobile phone.

The boozy night out in Newcastle soured as the PC and the shot girl got into a row over the bill.

Then things escalated inside a bar - as both claimed the other assaulted them.

The unnamed officer escaped a criminal probe after it was accepted he was acting in self-defence.

However, he's now been spoken to by bosses over his antics.

"The officer has, whilst off duty and on a night out with colleagues, purchased alcohol from a shot seller whereupon there has been a disagreement over the bill," states a summary of the allegations, published on Northumbria Police's website.

"This disagreement resulted in allegations of assault from both parties.

A behind-closed-doors misconduct meeting was held last November for the officer to face two counts of discreditable conduct.

ChronicleLive understands the officer wasn't suspended during the 11 months between the hearing and the claims.

However bosses gave the officer "management advice" at that meeting, details of which have only just been been made public.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “The incident in this case did not meet any threshold for a criminal prosecution.

"However, we expect the highest standards from everyone employed by Northumbria Police, both on and off-duty, and in this instance the officer involved has received advice about his behaviour when off duty.”
