Police officer jailed for kicking 14-year-old in the face

A former police officer has been jailed after kicking a 15-year-old boy in the face.

Adam Kitchener admitted assaulting the teen at Bristol Magistrates’ Court today (Tuesday, October 22).

The 36-year-old unleashed the attack during an arrest in Marsh Street, at around 4am on Sunday,March 31.

Following a complaint, inspectors at the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) launched an investigation into his use of force on the boy.

IOPC regional director Catrin Evans said: “Police officers should only use force when necessary, proportionate and reasonable in the circumstances.

“We carried out a thorough investigation after complaints were made about a 15-year-old boy being kicked in the face by former PC Kitchener during an arrest.

"The evidence strongly suggested the level of force used by the officer was disproportionate.”

He has been sentenced to 14 weeks in custody.

Avon and Somerset Police will also host a gross misconduct hearing into the case.

However, Mr Kitchener has already resigned from the force.
