Police officer injured in Springboig horror smash while responding to 999 call

A police officer was seriously injured when a marked car collided with a council care service vehicle in the east end last night.

Emergency services rushed to the horror smash in Edinburgh Road, Springboig, at around 8.15pm.

The driver of the police car was taken by ambulance to Glasgow Royal Infirmary with serious injuries. His colleague was also taken to hospital as a precaution, as was the female driver of the white Ford Ka which was also involved.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.15pm on Monday, 20 January, a marked police car responding to a call was involved in a crash with a white Ford Ka in Edinburgh Road, Glasgow, at the junction with Springboig Road.

“Two officers were injured.

"The driver of the police car was taken by ambulance to Glasgow Royal Infirmary with serious injuries. His colleague, who was in the passenger seat, was also taken to hospital as a precaution and later released.

“The woman driver of the Ka was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary by the Scottish Ambulance Service as a precaution.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what happened. Anyone who has any information to help with our inquries, including dash-cam footage, should contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 3311 of Monday, 20 January.”

Officers remained at the scene late on Monday night as they worked to remove the wreckage from the road.
