Police officer injured in Glasgow's Park Inn stabbings shortlisted for national bravery award

The police officer who was injured in the Park Inn stabbings has been shortlisted for a bravery award.

The 42-year-old was left in a critical condition after being stabbed by Badreddin Abadlla Adam at the hotel on West George Street in Glasgow city centre back in June.

PC David Whyte spent a week being treated for his injuries at Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital before being discharged to continue his recovery at home.

And he has been named among 50 nominees for the Single Act of Bravery award at the 5th Amplifon Awards for Brave Britons - which will recognise a person who displays courage or daring and may have put their own life in danger to save the lives of others.

Four finalists will be selected from the 50, with the overall winner declared in October.

Following his release from hospital, PC David Whyte, from Irvine, said: "I would like to thank the medical staff at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for saving my life and getting me back to where I am today.

“I feel incredibly lucky being able to leave hospital less than a week after the incident.

“I would also like to thank everyone at Police Scotland for their support and also the thousands of people who have sent warm wishes from around the world over the last few days.

“There is no doubt that I face a long road to recovery but I am absolutely determined to be back on duty as soon as I possibly can."

Good luck David!
