Police officer injured after 'disturbance' in Windsor Road, Neath

Police have launched an appeal following a disturbance in Neath that left an officer injured.

Detectives said the incident took place at around 6.30pm on Monday, April 12 on Windsor Road.

It came on the same day officers launched a crackdown on anti-social behaviour in the town.

South Wales Police confirmed it was investigating via a statement on Twitter.

It read: "We are investigating a disturbance which occurred at approx 1830hrs today on Windsor Road, Neath. If you witnessed this or have CCTV footage please ring 101 quoting 2100126688. Three persons have been arrested for assault + assault police."

One of the officers tagged in the tweet was Police Sergeant John McCumesky - who said it was fortunate "only minor injuries" had been suffered before thanking members of the public who came to assist.

The tweet was then signed off with the hashtag "oplileum" - a reference to the force's Operation Lileum, which is targeting anti-social behaviour in the town.

Some four hours before the disturbance took place, officers  made 21 ASB referrals, eight arrests, issued 25 dispersal orders as well as handing out two fixed penalty notices.

That operation had been welcomed by a number of residents - amid growing concern about anti-social behaviour in Neath town centre.

Back in March three people were arrested and two people were taken to hospital following reports of an assault on the same road.

Emergency services were called at around 11.45am on Thursday, March 11, and eyewitnesses saw a number of armed police officers and multiple ambulances at the scene.

Twitter user Ryan Francis commented: "Don’t know what the answer is for Windsor Road - the deterioration is shocking."
