A police sergeant is facing a disciplinary hearing for deliberately dangling a pepperoni pizza over a Jewish officer’s food.
The sergeant, identified only as PS Jacobs, allegedly mocked his colleague’s religion at the time of the incident on 8 March.
A piece of pepperoni then fell into the Jewish officer’s meal, meaning he could not eat it, according to Sussex Police.
The consumption of pork is prohibited under Jewish law.
PS Jacobs, who is based in Crawley, West Sussex, is due to appear before a misconduct hearing at the force headquarters in Lewes next week.
It is alleged that “his conduct breached police equality and diversity standards”.
The hearing starts on 19 November and is due to last two days.
Sussex Police published a notice of the hearing on its website.
It says: “On 8 March 2019, knowing that another officer is Jewish, PS Jacobs deliberately dangled a pizza containing pepperoni over that officer’s food.
“A piece of pepperoni subsequently fell onto that officer’s food meaning they could not eat it.”
