Police officer brings wealth of experience to crucial community role in Wishaw and Shotts

Sergeant Lorna Hinshelwood believes her previous policing experience will help bring success in her new role.

Lorna has joined the eight-strong community policing team for Wishaw, Craigneuk and Shotts. Led by Inspector Steve Murray, they are responsible for tackling local issues, dealing with partner agencies, local councillors and community groups.

With almost 18 years of policing experience Lorna started out on the beat in Bellshill, before serving in the mounted branch for seven years.

She returned to Lanarkshire, before being promoted and taking up a post in Motherwell.

“From there I moved into community policing, it’s something I really enjoy,” she said.

“I’ll be dealing with local issues and my main role will be reviewing all incidents in the community and ensuring we target known offenders and disrupt them.

“That includes everything from neighbour disputes to drug dealing issues.”
