Police officer 'blown away' by support after rude note left on his car

A police officer has said he has been left 'blown away' after a wound up tweet he sent went viral.

The policeman took to Twitter on Monday after popping into Tesco, only to come out and find a rude note left on the windscreen of his patrol car.

The message said: "£100 fine for shopping on duty".

This led the officer to reveal the heartbreaking truth about his job that day.

His tweet, which at the time of writing had been shared more than 8,000 times and liked 63,000 times, said: "Just left Tesco. Handwritten note on the windscreen of my patrol car. '£100 fine for shopping on duty'.

"If only I could tell the person who wrote it that I have just spent the last 7 hours at the sudden death of a baby. I'd bought a sandwich. We're not robots," he ended the message with the hashtags 'Be Kind' and 'Wound Up'.

As mentioned, the tweet from @NorthWestCop has received quite the response.

One Twitter user replied: "Thank you for being there for the hardest of day of someone's life today. I hope you're OK. I'm sorry some idiot felt that note was an OK thing to do."

"Isn't that piteous. So sorry you had that on top of something so very distressing," said another.

A third also added: "Take no notice... You do a fantastic job... Greatest respect to you."

The responses led the officer to write a follow up tweet.

He wrote: "Absolutely blown away by the response to my tweet. It's hard to see at times, as we deal with the worst society has to offer most days, but the good people clearly far outweigh the bad based on the messages I have received.

"My faith in humanity is restored. Thank you."
