A man has been arrested after a police officer suffered injuries to their hands and face in a suspected assault.
Merseyside Police were called to reports of a domestic-related incident at a property on Greenbank Drive in Fazakerley around 7.40am this morning (Sunday, April 10). An officer was assaulted by a man outside the property, leaving them with facial injuries and a fractured hand.
A 44-year-old man from Kirkby was detained shortly after the incident. He was arrested on suspicion of assault, possession of an offensive weapon and domestic violence-related offences.

The man has now been taken into custody and will be questioned by police. The officer who sustained the injuries was taken to hospital for treatment following the incident. Officers remained in the area this morning while CCTV, witness and forensic enquiries were carried out.
Chief Inspector Col Rooney said: “Merseyside Police will not tolerate violence against officers and staff who are responding to incidents and calls for assistance from members of the community. Our officers put their own lives and personal safety on the line every day in order to keep us all safe and they should never have to accept such physical violence that was reported today when carrying out their duties.”
