Police officer among multiple reported victims in shooting at Tennessee high school, officials say

A police officer was among multiple gunshot victims reported in an incident at a Tennessee high school Monday, according to authorities.

Police confirmed shortly before 4 p.m. EDT that officials were at the scene of a shooting at Austin-East Magnet High School in Knoxville.

A Knoxville police officer was among the victims, authorities said.

“The investigation remains active at this time. Please avoid the area,” Knoxville Police tweeted, noting there were authorities from multiple agencies at the scene.

The number of victims was not immediately made available, nor were any of their identities.

A district spokeswoman confirmed the school went into lockdown, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel, which also reported that a source said the situation wasn’t still “active.”

“A reunification site has been established at the baseball field behind Austin-East High School near Wilson and S. Hembree,” Knoxville Police tweeted in an update.
