TWO men will face court in Newcastle on Wednesday after allegedly threatening a police officer with a knife at Hamilton South.
Police will allege the senior constable was patrolling in the suburb about 2.10pm on Tuesday when a member of the public alerted him to a brawl in Fowler Street.
Police stopped their marked police vehicle near a crowd that had gathered when it is alleged a 28-year-old man approached the driver's side window armed with a large knife.
The senior constable, who was driving, had the window down to speak with the man who allegedly wielded the blade.
The second officer, also a senior constable, got out of the car and called on the man to drop the weapon.
The man complied and the two officers arrested the 28-year-old.
Police said that man and another, 35, have been charged in relation to the incident.
They are due to face Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday.
The charges mark the second serious allegation of violence toward police in the Hunter within a few days after a man accused of fracturing a police officer's eye socket in Telarah was refused bail on Monday.
