Police officer allegedly spat on by man claiming to have Covid-19

A police officer was reportedly spat on during an incident on Thursday by a man claiming to have coronavirus.

Police say they were responding to a report of two rowdy passengers on a bus in Newry.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police in Newry arrested a 26-year-old man following an incident on a bus on Thursday, May 28.

"He was arrested on suspicion of two counts of criminal damage, possession of class C drugs, possession of class C drugs with intent to supply and attempted grievous bodily harm with intent.

"The man has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries."
