Police officer accused of sexting woman he met while on duty

A Bristol police officer has been accused of sexting a member of the public he met while he was on duty and concealing a relationship with her.

PC Toby Rideout was allegedly in uniform when he sent a photo of his genitals to the woman.

He is accused of failing to act with self-control and abusing his authority as a police officer when he kissed a woman while he was on duty in March, then gave her his personal contact details and pursued a sexual relationship with her.

A notice for his misconduct hearing says the officer failed to tell his manager about the kiss, only reporting it when the woman said she would tell Avon and Somerset Police herself.

It says PC Rideout, who was based at the Broadbury Road police station in Bristol, behaved in a manner which discredits the police service and undermines public confidence.

The hearing will be held in public at the force HQ in Portishead on Thursday (July 23).
