Police officer accused of having business links to criminals

An Avon and Somerset Police officer has been accused of having business links to criminals.

The unnamed officer, identified only as W, will face a misconduct hearing over allegations he had known a business owner since 2009 who associated with people linked to crime.

In 2016 he gained a financial interest in the business, the hearing notice says.

It alleges officer W failed to disclose the true nature of his association with the business owner, or the extent of his own association with “individuals involved in criminality”.

Officer W is also accused of accessing information on the police system for a purpose that was not related to his duties.

If proved, the allegations will amount to gross misconduct.

The hearing will be held at the force HQ in Portishead on July 20.
