Police officer accused of groping women in Liverpool city centre

A police officer has denied sexually assaulting two women in Liverpool city centre.

Paul Ledwith, 45, of Cotton Terrace in St Helens, appeared at Manchester Crown court today (Wednesday) accused of five separate sexual assaults, all from last year.

Ledwith is accused of touching a woman's bottom on July 31, two counts of touching a woman's upper leg on August 1, and further charge of slapping a woman's bottom on August 1. He is also accused of putting his hand up a woman's skirt and touching her bottom on August 31.

Ledwith, who wore a blue suit during the hearing, pleaded not guilt to the five charges, which involve two complainants.

All the offences are alleged to have taken place in Liverpool city centre.

Ledwith, a serving officer with Merseyside Police, was suspended by the force. Barrister Charlotte Rimmer, defending, told the court her client was awaiting the outcome of an internal review.
