Police offer advice after crash causes busy Ashfield junction to close

A busy junction in Ashfield was required to close because of road traffic collision involving two vehicles.

The junction of Derby Road and Coxmoor Road was required to close to ensure an emergency response could be given to those involved but also to protect the public from further injury due to a traffic light being knocked down in the road.

Shortly, after having closed the road at several junctions to ensure the safety and effective response to those involved, it became clear that it started to cause issues to commuters and began a build up of traffic.

The Ashfield Police Facebook page shared some advice for residents and said: "This is a polite reminder that if there is Police tape, Police cars/lights, Police cones or simply a Police Officer/ Police Community Support Officer telling you the road is closed.

"The signs are there for a reason, please could we ask that you respect the signs/closures and find a safe alternative route. Also that you do not forget how to abide by road laws, drivers going through red lights and driving up the wrong sides of the road through junctions.

"It is for your safety the road is closed and when drivers do not abide by this it is putting Officers in danger.

"Should you live down the road that's closed, where we can we will allow access, but find a safe place to stop and approach us.

"A massive thank you to those who are understanding and follow the diversions, without questioning."
