Police negotiators drafted in as cops lockdown Glasgow street after man ‘attacked’ in shop

Police negotiators were drafted in to help arrest two suspects in connection with the alleged assault of a man in a Glasgow shop.

Several officers swooped on a property in Kempsthorn Place, in the Pollok area of the city, shortly after 9pm on Sunday.

A large cordon was put in place to keep members of the public back as officers were seen shining their torches inside a particular house.

Two men were later arrested and charged.

Police Scotland confirmed they were initially called after a man was reportedly attacked within a shop on the nearby Leithland Road.

He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment and later released.

The two suspects, aged 21 and 26, are expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday.

A statement from Police Scotland said: “Around 9.05pm on Sunday, 1 August, police received a report of an assault on a man within a shop on Leithland Road, Pollok on Sunday, 1 August.

“The injured man was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and released after treatment.

“Two men, aged 21 and 26 years were traced at an address in Kempsthorn Place, following the assault.

“Officers assisted by negotiators attended and they were both arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

“They are due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday, 2 August. A full report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
