Police name Ystalyfera 'murder' victim

A man who died suddenly in Ystalyfera on Sunday night has been named by detectives as 50-year-old Raymond Ashley.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Maes Y Darren at around 10.35pm on Sunday - prompting police to launch a murder investigation.

His family have now released a statement via South Wales Police, accredited to his Steven, Kristy and James.

It said: “We are deeply saddened by the loss of our dad, he will be sadly missed by all of his friends, family, his children and grandchildren, he was a great character and kind to all that knew him.”

The tribute comes after a 48-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman arrested in connection with Mr Ashley's death were released by police under investigation.

Residents in the area reported being shocked by the incident describing Ystalyfera as "usually a really quiet area".

Police have been appealing for anyone who was in the area from 6pm to 10.45pm on Sunday night to come forward.
