Police name van driver and teen passenger killed in 24 hours of carnage on Scotland's motorways

Two men who were killed in a motorway crash involving a van and a lorry have been named by police.

Van driver David Walton, 57, and 17-year-old Joshua Hatton-Emery, a passenger in the vehicle, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The collision happened on the M74 near Eaglesfield, Dumfries and Galloway, at around 6.15am on Thursday.

Both men came from Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire, Police Scotland confirmed on Monday.

The lorry driver was unhurt in the incident.

In a statement, police said: "Inquiries into the cause of collision are ongoing and the Procurator Fiscal has been informed."

David and Joshua are among four people killed on Scotland's motorways in less than 24 hours.

Tributes paid to young Scots soldier who died in horror crash on M74  

A 42-year-old driving a light goods vehicle died at the scene when he was involved in a collision with a BMW near Lesmahagow at 6.25pm on Thursday.

And soldier Craig McLaren, 22 died when his car crashed on the southbound carriageway of the M74 near Ecclefechan, Dumfries and Galloway, shortly after 9pm on Wednesday.

An 18-year-old man in the car was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, while two female passengers, aged 16 and 19, were taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.

Anyone with information on anyone of these incidents should call police on 101.
