Police name suspect after teenagers stabbed in Liverpool City Centre

Police today named a man suspected of being behind a "horrific" stabbing which left two teenagers injured - one seriously.

It was reported a group of men had been seen fighting close to River Island on Church Street at 4am , and a 19-year-old man sustained a stab wound to the chest during the incident.

His condition is now described as serious but stable. A second 19-year-old man who was cut to the face was treated in hospital and later discharged.

After the stabbing former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher has sent his support to The Kairos, a well known band on the Liverpool circuit.

The Mancunian issued "love and light" to "Tom and Lewis" from The Kairos, who hail from Formby.

Today Merseyside Police confirmed a man has been charged over a stabbing in the city centre.

A spokesman said: "We have charged a man after an incident in Liverpool city centre in the early hours of Sunday.

"Jason Thomas Medlicott, 20, of Leinster Road, Liverpool has been charged with two counts of Section 18 wounding, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and affray."

Medlicott has been remanded in custody to appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court this morning.

The Kairos are made up of Tom Dempsey on lead guitar and vocals, Lewis Chambers on guitar, Owen Forrester on bass and Sam Bradley on drums and backing vocals.

The stabbing took place close to River Island on Church Street in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A Twitter user who appeared to be a member of the Dempsey family replied to Gallagher's message, saying: "All the love to LG," followed by a red heart.

Another tweeted: "Two of my mates from Formby stabbed in town last night. One in critical condition. Boss from Liam this."

The Kairos are an emerging talent on the Merseyside music scene, and played a prominent gig just over a week ago at the Invisible Wind Factory venue.

Local music website Getintothis reviewed that concert, and said of them: "...it's easy for first time listeners to hear why they are so popular in this city.

"It’s likeable, well, lovable rock and roll and Nostalgia is their best tune tonight."
