Police name pilot who is still missing after Anglesey plane crash

Police have named the pilot they are searching for following a light aircraft crash near Anglesey.

Professor David Last, 79, has been missing since his plane disappeared from radar contact at around 12.45pm yesterday (November 25).

Police have confirmed that Professor Last, an experienced and respected pilot, was the only person on board.

A search and rescue mission co-ordinated by the HM coastguard in the Puffin Island area of North Wales entered its second day today.

North Wales Police said that search activities had again been suspended this afternoon due to adverse weather conditions.

Professor Last’s family today issued a statement paying tribute to their loved one and asking for privacy while the search continues.

It read: "Professor David Last was a Consultant Engineer and Expert Witness specialising in Radio Navigation and Communications Systems.

"He was a Professor Emeritus at the University of Bangor, Past-President of the Royal Institute of Navigation and a respected figure in the world-wide navigation community.

"He was an experienced, instrument-rated pilot.

"Most importantly to us, he was head of the family: a much loved father, husband, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend, and we are all heartbroken.

"We would appreciate respect for our privacy during this difficult time.”
