Police name man who died after being found in Heaton Park - but don't know why he travelled to Manchester

A man from London who died in Heaton Park has been named as police search for information about his family.

James Nicholas died following an incident in the Prestwich park on Sunday, April 25, but officers have said there are no suspicious circumstances relating to his death.

The 48-year-old is from the Chelsea area, and police say they do not know why he was in Manchester.

They have now launched an appeal to trace his next of kin and asked anyone with information on his relatives to come forward.

Witnesses spotted emergency service crews in the park in the morning on Sunday after a man collapsed around 10.50am.

It is believed that he may have suffered a medical episode.

Members of the public gave first aid at the scene before the man was taken to hospital but he died a short time later.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "At around 10:50 am , police officers were called to a report of a semi-conscious male in Heaton Park.

"Upon arrival members of the public had begun first aid.

"NWAS (North West Ambulance Service) also attended the scene and the male was taken to hospital.

"Sadly the male died at hospital a short time later.

"There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and report has been made for HM Coroner."

Anyone with information on Mr Nicholas' next of kin is asked to call the Police Coroners Office on 0161 856 6816.
