Police name man believed to be rough sleeper who died in alleyway next to Hilton Hotel

A man who died after being found in an alleyway next to the Hilton Hotel has been named by police.

Valerij Tichormirov, who was 52, was found in the alleyway just off Milton Street in the city centre on Tuesday, November 19.

Mr Tichormirov was believed to have been sleeping rough on the night when temperatures plummeted to minus two degrees Celsius.

Paramedics and police were called at around 8.20am after receiving reports of a man collapsing.

He was rushed to the Queen's Medical Centre for treatment but was later pronounced dead.

Homelessness charity Framework's chief executive, Andrew Redfern, said the incident was a "sobering reminder of the dangers of rough sleeping."

Emergency measures were activated on the night by Nottingham City Council, including the sit-up service which it funds, where fire stations across the city are opened to act as a shelter.

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman added: "A man who died in Nottingham city centre on 19 November 2019 has been named as 52-year-old Valerij Tichormirov following his next of kin being informed of the incident."
