Police name cyclist killed after early-morning crash in North Ayrshire

A cyclist who died following an early-morning crash in North Ayrshire has been named by police.

He was 32-year-old Euan Thomson.

Mercy crews were summoned to the A760 between Kilbirnie and Largs after a collision involving Mr Thomson and a white Mercedes van near Muirhead reservoir.

The incident happened around 6.35am on Wednesday and Mr Thomson was, sadly, pronounced dead at the scene. The 37-year-old driver of the van was uninjured.

Police have asked anyone who witnessed the incident, or has dash-cam footage, to come forward with enquiries ongoing.

Sergeant Stewart Taylor, of Police Scotland, said tonight: “Our thoughts are very much with Euan’s family at this very difficult time and they have asked for privacy.

“Enquiries into the crash are continuing and anyone who has information that could assist, and has not already spoken to officers, can contact us via 101, quoting incident number 0494 of Wednesday, 10 August, 2022.”

There was further tragedy on Ayrshire's roads yesterday when an 81-year-old dog walker died following a horror crash on the A78 outside The Rowan Tree garden centre and restaurant in Ardrossan.
