Police in New Zealand say there are "multiple fatalities" at 2 mosques in the city of Christchurch, with 4 people taken into custody. Prime Minister Jacinda Adern did not offer details on casualties, but said: “It will be one of New Zealand’s darkest days.”
Details: New Zealand police said Friday evening local time they had taken three men and one woman into custody. Improvised explosive devices had been found attached to vehicles, police said. A man who claimed responsibility for the attacks appears to have recorded and posted video of the shootings, along with an anti-immigrant manifesto explaining his actions, online. A witness, who entered one mosque after the attack to try and help people, told the AP he saw many people dead. Christchurch Hospital and schools in the South Island city were in lockdown for several hours before being lifted in the evening.
