Police message to yobs 'who think they are invincible' after terrorising mum and elderly woman in estate rampage

Police are hunting a group of yobs who "terrorised" a mum and an elderly woman with a wooden stick.

The incident happened on the 'Welsh Estate' in Fallowfield on Saturday night.

GMP say a group of youths were marauding around the estate last night "trying to cause criminal damage" and were armed with a big wooden stick.

They say a mum with a young baby and an elderly lady were among those left scared by their behaviour.

Officers gave chase and were unable to catch up with them.

However they say officers have been deployed to the area again tonight.

The estate, behind the Sainsbury's supermarket gains its names as the streets off Lindleywood Road are named after places in Wales such as Abersoch Avenue.

GMP Fallowfield said on Facebook: "To the youths on the Welsh Estate last night thinking they are invincible because they got away from us following a chase.

"We don't forget a face easily and you left a young mother and her 6 month old baby and an elderly lady terrified in their homes after your antics with a wooden stick trying to cause Criminal Damage.

"We shall be back there tonight looking for you, along with our colleagues who all have your description now."

Asked why they were tipping them off, they said: "Judging by the large police presence following it last night it shouldn’t come as a surprise! And we were actually on the street on patrol as it happened fortunately!"
