Police manhunt after 'faeces' smeared on synagogues and school in Golders Green

Police have launched an urgent appeal after CCTV shows a man allegedly smearing faeces on two synagogues and along a passageway used by worshippers in north London.

The anti-Semitic attacks took place last Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday in Golders Green, and are being investigated by Metropolitan Police as criminal damage.

Det Supt Tony Bellis said: "This is a revolting and appalling act and we are urging the public to help us locate those responsible as soon as possible."

Volunteers from Shomrim North West London, which patrol areas including Golders Green, Hendon and Finchley, gathered the CCTV footage and passed it on to police.

According to The Jewish News, the substance smeared on the walls of the synagogues was faeces, while one private residence was also targeted.

A spokesperson for Shomrim said: “This is a deliberate and disgraceful antisemitic act targeting places of worship and members of our community.

“It is utterly disgusting, and those responsible must be caught and brought to justice. Nobody should have to face such hatred when going to pray or at their own home.

“Shomrim will continue to work closely with police to support the victims and to help ensure the perpetrators are found.”

It has also reported a local Jewish school also being targeted in the early hours of Monday.

The school has taken the necessary precautions to ensure there is no threat to children, it said.

A Shomrim spokesperson said:“This is the fourth deliberate and targeted antisemitic act by the same suspect in just over a week. It is appalling that our community’s synagogues, homes, and now a school have been desecrated in a similar way. We are working tirelessly with police to ensure the individual is caught and held to account, and we are supporting all those affected.”
