Police: Man had 'extensive amount' of child pornography

Jan. 23--A 29-year-old man is accused of having an "extensive amount'' of child pornography at his north suburban Gages Lake home, authorities said.

Jason G. Rygiel, of the 18000 block of West Grand Drive in the north suburb, was charged with five counts of reproducing child pornography, each a Class X felony, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

A search warrant was executed at his home Thursday after a forensic examination of media devices revealed about 1,000 images and videos identified as child pornography, according to the sheriff's office. It was also determined during the investigation that Rygiel reproduced several videos containing child pornography.

Rygiel, who is being held in the Lake County Jail after a judge set bail at $100,000, was arrested at his home after the search. His next court date scheduled for Jan. 30.

Based on the extensive amount of child pornography located on the electronic media, further investigation will be conducted to determine if additional charges will be sought on the devices seized, the sheriff's office said.

The sheriff's office's cybercrimes unit, with assistance from the Lake County state's attorney office's cybercrimes unit, conducted the investigation.
