Police make 'several' arrests after huge youth 'riot' in Glasgow park

Police have made several arrests after an alleged large scale riot broke out amongst youths in a Glasgow park this evening.

Around 20 to 30 emergency vehicles were seen rushing to Hogarth Park in the east end of the city at around 7.10pm (Thursday).

Police Scotland say "several arrests" were made after officers attended the alleged disturbance in Carntyne. However, no one is believed to have been injured.

Locals reported seeing a huge police presence tearing through the city.

One eyewitness told the Daily Record: "I was just sitting watching TV when I heard a few sirens going off, at first I didn't think anything of it but then I could see more and more police vans speed round the corner down Alexandra Park Street.

"It was all kicking off, I thought it must have been something major for that many police to be rushing past. There were about 20 cars, from what I counted."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers were called around 7.10 pm on Thursday, 21 May, 2020, to a large scale youth disturbance in Carntyne Road/Hogarth Park, Haghill, Glasgow.

"Several arrests have been made and enquiries are continuing. No one has been injured."

As reported by the Daily Record, one local on social media, said: "Could someone tell me what’s happening at Hogarth Park... so damn curious?

Another said: "Right so sources say that there are actually more like 40+ police cars/riot vans and they’re all up Carntyne and Edinburgh Road."

Another added: "Half of police Scotland at Hogarth park in the east end of Glasgow. Absolutely mental scenes."
